Tips when Visiting Yellowstone National Park
Yellowstone is one of the stunning view I’ve ever seen, it so amazing, to see the super volcano for the first time. And for that we kinda have to research really ahead of time. Here’s some tips when visiting Yellowstone National Park.
Accommodation
Yellowstone National Park, is kinda huge, like it’s part of 3 states. Wyoming, Idaho and Montana. So I strongly suggest to stay in the park, cause it will eat a lot of driving time if you stay out of the park. That being said, lodging in Yellowstone, can get fully book. You might want to reserve rooms like a year prior. We reserved ours like 7 months. And I barely had a choice. I was planning to do it on a long weekend. But we need to adjust the travel date based on our rooms. Rooms are expensive and small. But cozy and comfortable. I really like that they have indispensable things, like glass, shampoo, conditioner and body wash in container.
On our first day, we stayed in Canyon Lodge. Then on our 2nd day, we planned to visit the Geyser Basins and stayed in Old Faithful Lodge. The park doesn’t have any signal, if the reception have WiFi, it will not be that strong.
Food
We have some snacks and some granola bars, of course water too. Since food restaurants or stores are not that pretty close, so you might want to have some emergency food. Once you got to any of the lodges, they have diner, food stalls and desserts. You can also reserve to the Yellowstone Lodging for dinner or breakfast.
Transportation
There’s 2 close airport to Yellowstone National Park. The Bozeman Aiport and the Jackson Hole Airport. They can be very expensive to wherever you are flying. You can also drive from Rapid City, South Dakota or Wyoming or Salt Lake City. Whatever you decide, rent a car and have some insurance. We didn’t get one, we were lucky and didn’t get any damage inside the park, especially when there’s some bison stampede ?.
Sightseeing
We arrived at Bozeman airport, so we planned to start to visit the Mammoth Hot Spring and all the way to the geyser basins. To save time and not and not go back to the spot again, cause it will be really far. So we went to Mammoth Hot Springs, Lamar Valley, and then Grand Canyon of Yellowstone, and stayed at the Canyon Lodge which is pretty close. The next day, we visited the Norris Geyser Basin, the Lower Geyser Basin, Midway Geyser Basin, Upper Geyser Basin and Old Faithful Geyser Basin, then stayed at the Old Faithful Lodge. We highly recommend to stay inside the park, cause it’s really huge, to save time and energy. Here’s my post on how to spend 2 days in Yellowstone National Park.
What to bring
Bring some insect repellent, bear spray if your camping. Some binocular, if you plan to look for wildlife from a far. comfy shoes or hiking shoes. Water and snacks, and of course your camera!
And that’s it you’re all set, and enjoy your time in Yellowstone National Park!
Wow! Yellowstone looks incredible, especially the Mammoth Springs! Excellent photography! We cannot wait to get there someday.
