Phillip Island and Penguin Parade from Melbourne
We wanted to see some Kangaroo and Kaola up close. So I’ve search on where we can find one in Sydney or Melbourne. That’s how I found some tours to Philip Island and Penguin Parade from Melbourne. Where you get up close to Kangaroos and at night time, you get to see some of the penguins.
We got our tours, it was kinda hard to look for the tours, in terms of our schedule, as some are just operating during Mon, Wednesday and Friday. The one that we got is a little expensive, and does not include the Brighton Houses. I was confused, with other tours. But what matters is that we got a confirmed tour.
The tour picked us up at our hotel around 10:30 am since the Penguin Parade is scheduled at 6:00pm. So we start the tour going the Philip Island, where we got our lunch, of Fish and Chips and some dessert.
And time to see the Wildlife Park in Philip Island. There are some introductions when we got there. And then they gave me bag of food per person for the the Kangaroos (probably for all animals) to feed.
For Kaola, I’ve read that NSW don’t allow people to touch them. As to avoid stressing them out. But in Taronga Zoo, you can get a picture up close to Kaola (without touching them) but for additional fee, and for a limited tickets too.
Then off we go to see the Kangaroos ?
After the encounter with the Kangaroo. We left for the Penguin Parade, but before that, we stopped on some stunning view on our way there.
It’s time to see the Penguin, we got seated around 5:00 pm, as they say the Penguin will start showing around 6:00 pm. Unfortunately, we waited for 2 hours, and we didn’t see much, it’s like 3 small penguins, and it’s too far. By the way, their penguins, are a size of a ruler, and it’s color blue. So they are not like Happy Feet, haha. Anyway, on our way back, we just saw some penguins, who are already on their little houses. It’s a bit hard, and camera or videos are not allowed. For penguins protection, as they get scared or stress easily with the clicks and flash. But sadly, there are some tourist, who still took pictures ? . There are rangers who will remind the tourists about this from time to time, if they see one.
The Philip Island Nature Parks told us that we can grab some pics or video from their site for free.
Time to go back to Melbourne!

What an experience! You saw so many kangaroos. I had no idea the penquins in NSW were small and blue. To me, Australia has some of the weirdest animals–kangaroos, platypus, blue penquins.
This looks like it was an incredible day! I haven’t been lucky enough to get to see kangaroos that close but your photos show me that it’s just as amazing as I would want it to be. Sorry you didn’t get to see all the penguins you were after but it still looks like it was a day full of wildlife.
I have never been in that place but wow, it such a great experience seeing a kangaroos and penguins with your naked eye.
Wow. What an awesome experience! I have not been that close to a kangaroo! How nice to be able to see them in their natural habitat and not locked up in some cage at the zoo.
One of my dream country to visit with. For sure you had a great time with the Kangaroos there.
I have been here and its a amazing place. I would love to visit there sometime.
This looks like such a memorable experience! I love the kangaroos, so relaxed and chill.
I totally missed out on Phillip Island the last time I was in Melbourne. Now I totally regret not going. Looks like such a fun day trip!
Reason for you to come back ?
