Our Getaway: 14-Days in Canada – Things to do in Montreal
Finally, we had a family vacation. Visited Montreal, Quebec, Ottawa, Toronto and Niagara Falls in 2 weeks. Tourist visa for Canada is relatively fast
Booked Via Rail train from Toronto to Montreal for 4.5 hours ride, then Montreal to Quebec by Bus thru Orleans Express Bus for 2 hours and via rail from Quebec to Ottawa. Lastly, Via rail from Ottawa to Toronto.
First up, Montreal…
I’ve been to Montreal before. We had a car, but this time we used their public transportation. We bought their unlimited day pass, for $10 at the nearest metro station.
And off we go.
Montreal metro line
Our first stop, Olympic Stadium..nothing much in here, unless you go to museum and aquarium. But we just took our pictures outside the stadium.
Next, St. Joseph Oratory. This is considered to be the world’s largest monument to Saint Joseph in North America. So we go up, with 100 plus stairs, to see this view.
And we also go inside, to explore the chapel and buy some rosary and got some holy water. Small bottles are C$1 each.
Then off to Old Montreal to have some lunch and to walk around the place.
Clock tower is a 10-15 minute walk. Just enjoy the view while walking and watching the people too ?
On your way to clock tower, you will also see the Bonsecours Market.
It’s kind of along walk, but we need it after eating ?
After taking pictures, we went back and visit Notre Dame cathedral ?. Recommended time to visit Notre Dame is in the morning, to avoid the crowd. You will need to pay C$7 for entrance fee.
Notre Dame has an amazing neo-Gothic style. And it’s really beautiful inside.
Next stop is the Montreal Biosphère. There’s nothing much in here too, just the big sphere ?
We also went to Saint-Louis Square to take a picture of some colorful houses.
We also found some big real chess outside of the Place des Arts. Where there are actual people playing!
And then time to rest ?
We booked our accommodation though airbnb, which is good too. We have a private room and our own keys. I read the reviews from other guests if it is worth it ?, before reserving the room.
We are scheduled to leave Montreal to Quebec at 12:00 pm the next day, so time to rest ?
