Extreme Adventure: My First Skydive Tandem Jump Experience
My First Skydive Tandem Jump Experience. I wanted to try this ever since I’ve learned about it. But I still need some courage to do it ?. We saw Skydive Toronto‘s promo last boxing sale, but we missed their C$60 off promo, instead we got a C$30 off. So we grabbed it and scheduled our jump on their site, as early as possible. Just check their site for the updated prices.
I’m not afraid of heights, and sometimes, I really like adventure. The only thing that I worry is dizziness. ‘Cause first, I don’t usually eat heavy meal if I’m about to do something like this. And 2nd, I really can’t sleep the day before the adventure/trip.
And true enough, I have zero sleep! I tried, but I can’t. There’s a lot of what ifs and I’m having second thought that maybe I can’t really do this and I just carried away ’cause it’s seems fun?! ? Well, I just hope I don’t faint, up in the air!
And the day has come, we drove to Skydive Toronto, an hour drive from Toronto. We are scheduled at 8:00 am. So we left like 6:50 am and arrived at 7:50 am. First thing you need to do, is go to their registration room, and they will let you watch videos that will explain the consequences of this sport. I think it’s like 30 minute-video.
After that, you need to read the waiver, which is 4-5 pages, and agree to the terms by signing or putting your initials and date. You can choose, if you want to have video and stills to include to your skydive. They have packages for hand-cam or outside video/cam, which you will have a personal videographer from Skydive Toronto.
I want to back out! I know my friend wants to back out too, but no one is saying that out loud!!! ? I guess that’s the effect when you already paid for it ?. Or my brain can’t process what is about to happen ?.
I saw my name in the board, and my tandem instructor, Igor, called me to get ready. He gave me the pants, and he put the harness on me. Then fit the helmet and goggles.
Igor showed how to exit the door, they have a replica of the plane door and we practice on how to exit. and what not and what to do. After that we ride to the van to take us to where the small plane is.
I’m so quiet when we were at the van. Mixed emotions. I gave my bank account pin to my best friend to give it to my family if anything goes wrong ?, well cross fingers.
And this is it, the plane is already here, the instructors guide us in the plane. Total of 6 jumpers, me and my friend, our tandem instructors and our photographers.
And here we are, inside the plane, all I can think is that, “I hope I made the right decision wahaha”. So I enjoyed the view while we were flying. And suddenly they open the door, and I was like “wait! what’s happening? I’ve never been in the plane with a door open! OMG, I love my life!!!! Can I still back out? I’m not ready to face death….I don’t want to throw myself out of the plane!!!! I’m scared shitless!!! ?”. And yeah, I can only shout in my mind.
And then we jumped…
At that time, I can’t explain the feeling, I was so happy that I’m flying. But at the same time, it was so fast! Until my instructor tap my shoulder and point to my photographer, and do all the pose you can think (if you can think, that is) ?. I think I did all the hand signs, I even mixed some, and did some signs that are not even a sign ?. It is so hard to smile when the impact of the air keeps on slapping your face. It’s the longest 1 minute of my life! (It’s a 1 minute free fall)
Then Igor tap my right thigh and it’s time for me to pull the string for the parachute. And we’re just relaxing up in the air. Until he let me drive the parachute to do the spiral, which didn’t help and I felt more dizzy ?. I did the spiral twice. LOL. I enjoyed the view for 4 minutes. Then it’s time for us to land.
My instructor told me to lift my legs, and open it wide, and he will support my legs when we’re about to land on our butt. And it was a smooth land ?.
We removed our pants, helmets and goggles. And they gave us our certificate that we succeed our tandem skydive.
The helmet and goggles are really tight, that at some point, it’s hard to open my right eye. Which are evident on some of the pictures. I got a distorted face because of the impact of the air too ?.
While I was doing the skydive, it was really scary, to be honest. But well, you just need to face your fear to be able to enjoy it ?. Try it!
You’re such a rockstar girl! So awesome!
When I was in New Zealand, many of my friends went skydiving and I did not and always regretted it! It sounds like so much fun and thrill! All the adrenaline!
I want to do this one day. I have a fear of heights, but this looks like so much fun and a fear I can overcome.
Wow! I bet that was thrilling. The older I get the less risky i find myself.
A few month ago many of my friends went skydiving and I did not! No big with the adrenaline rush! I love the bravery
Wow..Looks like you both enjoyed it very much. I wanna do skydive once. But I don’t know whether I have the brave at that time.
This looks terrifying and also like so much fun! I was gifted a jump for my birthday, but haven’t booked it yet. This is inspiring me to finally go. ?
Amazing! I wish I weren’t afraid of heights to do something this daring.
Omgggggg. This is number one in my bucket list. !!!
Wow, I would looove to do this, but I am such a chicken. I am putting this on my want-to-do list. Thanks for the description of the whole experience, so we know what to expect 🙂
