Day Trip to Rainbow Mountain from Cusco
Rainbow Mountain have been popular this past 2 years. Lots of tourists have been visiting it for it’s 7 colors from minerals. There’s 3 backpackers who accidentally went to the wrong route and discovered the Rainbow Mountain. That’s how the people in Cusco knew about it when they showed the pictures. However, the Himalayas, who are living or close there already knew that hundreds of years ago. But because of lack of social media there’s no way for them to share it.
So that’s how the Rainbow Mountain became popular, and the other one that made it popular? are the cute creatures that you will find once you start the long hike.
We look for a tour for the Rainbow Mountain. We searched and some said it can be cheaper if you book when you are in Cusco. But, we decided to look for some online that is affordable, ’cause we don’t want to end up not having one.
The tour pick us up at our hotel around 3:30 am. From Machu Picchu, we didn’t got enough sleep, like only 3 hours or so. That’s not good, haha. The hotel gave us a packed breakfast bag, which has sandwich, box of juice, apple and a cereal bar. The tour also includes breakfast, so we have double breakfast.
After 1.5 hours, we arrived at some food restaurant, where they served us big breakfast. Then another 1 hour drive until we reached our destination.
When we get there, our tour guide explain what we need to do. Since it’s 5,200 meters high. It’s really hard to breath. The recommended is you stay at least 3 days in Cusco to be able to acclimate, so that’s one of our mistake. It’s real, I just tried like 2 steps going up, and I’m out or breath. The guides have this oil where your hands and smell it 3 times that will help a bit. They call is some magic potion, where you will feel better afterwards.
Funny thing, we just started hiking for not even 1 minute, and I already know that I will need some help. So decided to ride a horse. I’m not a hiker and I already know that I won’t last. I feel bad for the horse, but you know, they are built for it. They are really good, and I’m telling you, it’s not easy for them either. It may look they used to it, but if you will see them going back and forth for like me, who can’t hike, the money you will pay is totally worth it, and you’re helping them too.
Anyway, if you will choose to ride a horse, it will take 20 minutes, but you will still need to hike for 10-15 minutes to get to the top.If you’re a hiker, good for you!
When they dropped us, it was the dreaded time for me, suddenly my back ache, I can’t breath, and it’s cold! I don’t know how I survived, I just know I needed to see it, since it’s already there. It’s so close yet so far!
I was grateful and in pain when we reached it. I can’t explain it. I’m in awe, at the same time, I want to just go back. But we need some pictures. Literally I think my brain is not working due to lack of oxygen, and it’s just so cold up there. But sometimes, I can’t think of it, especially when I saw these cute alpacas.
You just have to give donations of whatever amount to have pictures with these cuties.
No doubt this place is so amazing, my first time of seeing a rainbow mountain too. Don’t forget to get some stamp to your passport, before going down. Going down was definitely doable, so we just hike down slowly. Just to appreciate the place.
If you want to experience 4 seasons in one day, this is the place that will definitely give you that. We had sunny, windy, and some hail. At some point it rained, luckily we’re already in the van. We were so tired, and I fell asleep after. Then we woke up and time for our lunch, so hungry!!!
Our tour guide, gave us some really good information about the Rainbow Mountain. That sums up our tour ending at 3 pm and dropping us off to our location.
