Mount Rushmore in South Dakota and Things to do Nearby
As we were planning our trip to some of the west coast, we finally decided to visit first the Mount Rushmore in South Dakota and Things to do Nearby.
Mount Rushmore, as we all know are the sculptures or majestic figures of the George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln The Project’s execution was from 1927 to 1941. They the names who built the 60-foot heads of the Presidents
There’s no entrance for the Mount Rushmore National Park. Just parking fee which cost $10 per car.
The Avenue of Flags which have 56 flags represent the 50 states, one district, three territories, and two commonwealths of the United States of America. Unfortunately, there’s an on going construction and we weren’t able to see it.
You can also visit at night at they have evening lightning ceremony. Hopefully the construction will be done soon. We didn’t stay that long so we decided to our next stop. Where we got lost.
We put the Blackhills National Forest to our offline map, since we lost signal. Apparently, we got lost, said that we arrived in out destination, but we were like in the middle of nowhere. So we just set the map to Devil’s tower, but our location is like kinda weird. And the road that we went through is like a narrow road that only one car can get through. There were even warnings that there’s road construction. Honestly, we thought that the truck drivers were thinking that we’re crazy going on that way. There’s no way anyway but to follow the map. Thank God, after driving about an hour, we finally found ourselves in the thruway.
We’re just happy to be back to the road and on our way to Devils Tower. I forgot to mention about the bikers! There were a lot of bikers when we were there. Then we found out that there’s some event for bikers, so cool to see them lot on the road.
Finally, we arrived in the right destination this time. The Devils Tower also known as Mato Tipila which means Bear Lodge. There’s a lot of stories as how the Devils Tower got it’s stripe lines, like from the nails of a Big Bear climbing the rock to get to the native people who’s on top of it. Entrance fee for the Devils Tower cost $25 per vehicle and $20 per motorcycle.
We decided to go back to Rapid City and rest and just visit the Badlands National Park the next day. Other attractions that you can visit it the like the Jewel Cave National Monument and the Crazy Horse Memorial. Dinosour Park and Reptile Gardens for kids and some museums.
We left the hotel a little early, so we can go back before our flight. Though we were kinda disappointed, because it was gloomy when we arrived in Badlands, resulting to not seeing the depths of it. But as long as it didn’t rain.
Went back to Rapid city to kill some time before our flight. which got delayed because of the rain. We were just so happy that we made it on our connecting Flight to Fresno. Our Yosemite Adventure begins.
Thanks for the tips! I put them on my to do list for when I end up in the US one day 🙂

This is so unique, and now I could imagine the time, efforts, and money spent in creating this monument. The Devil’s Tower is very interesting and looks yeah devilish.
This is one place that is on my to-do travel bucketlist. It’s pretty iconic as a US landmark!
I keep on seeing some clips of South Dakota in movies. This guide makes it more real to me. I like that you indicated the specific details like the entrance fees. I’ll visit it after this pandemic.
