How to spend 48 hours in London Itinerary

How to spend 48 hours in London. Yeah, you read it right. London City in 2 days. This is really short trip for visiting the London. But it works for us. Since we just wanted to see the popular spots in London City.

How we come up for this trip? We planned to tour around London City for 2 days. 1 day for Stonehenge and Roman Bath and 2 days in Edinburgh.

Did I mention that our travel dates fall on the date the Royal Wedding is scheduled? But well, unfortunately we weren’t able to see it and we’re not lucky enough to see them anywhere in the city ?.
Anyway, we booked our trip through Westjet and our arrival time in London City was morning of May 16th. We arrived at Gatwick Airport and after we passed the Immigration area, first thing we did is look for transportation card. We were contemplating if we will buy the travel card or the oyster card. But since we just realized that all the tourist spots are in zone 1 and 2, Oyster card is the best option because of its capping limit.

We bought the Oyster card with a £5 deposit and we loaded £25. So we’re ready to go to London City. We then look for the free shuttle from terminal 3 to terminal 1 where all the trains going to London city is located. We needed to go to London Bridge then switch to Jubilee line going to our hostel. It’s a 1 hour travel time. And since we’re early check in. We just changed and leave our luggage in the hostel’s storage room.

Day 1

Since we already know the London Bridge station, we just went there and start which one will be closer to that place. Well we’re hoping it will be the London Bridge. And needless to say, we saw a glimpse of it. Actually I was confuse since from the start I know it is London Bridge, but I was wrong, it is called the Tower Bridge. We just follow the path to the bridge and took some pictures of it. I was just excited to finally see it.

I can say we spend too much taking pictures and didn’t go to the top of the tower. Well, I’m not really interested seeing the top view of London City for the reason that it has too many constructions on going. And didn’t actually know that I can go to the top of the tower ?.

After we got our shots, we need to refuel and have a late lunch. We went to Jamie’s Italian restaurant near the London Bridge station area. We ordered their burger with broccoli side and Lasagna. It was really delicious ?

We went straight to Westminster station after our lunch to see the Big Ben and the popular red phone boxes. Unfortunately Big Ben is under construction and will be silent for four years. We didn’t really get a chance to see it even just the half of it, cause all of it was covered with construction thing. ?

We just took a picture of Parliament. I didn’t even go to the other side of the bridge to see the Big Ben in an arc, cause it’s useless. And the London Eye is just on the other side of that bridge too. Again not really interested riding the Ferris wheel, because of construction.

We still need to find those red phone boxes though.
Our feet were kinda tired but finally we saw them, it’s just on the corner of the Westminster subway station (Why we didn’t see it? We’re just focus of the Big Ben ?)

Our last stop. St Paul’s Cathedral and Millennium Bridge. This is a long walk form the station. And our feet are already tired from lack of sleep in the the plane. But still, we tried to find the place where we can see St.Patrick’s Cathedral. I was kinda skeptical to go to the other end of the bridge, because of tiredness, but still we tried. And here it is ?

We took a lot of pictures. Since it’s a footbridge, it’s kinda hard to get a good picture of it, unless it’s early in the morning.

Well time to rest. And checked in to our hostel.

Day 2

We woke up late, so we missed some of the spots. Like the Trafalgar Square where the National Gallery is.

After we had our breakfast. We went to Abbey Road where the popular The Beetles crossed the road. It’s hard to take a picture of it, especially if you need to take a look both sides for the oncoming traffic. I hope we didn’t disturbed them ?

Of course, how would I miss the Platform 9 3/4 in King’s Cross station. I’m not a big fan of Harry Potter, but I loved the books as well as the movies, so I need to have a picture with this platform.

The waiting time is 1 hour, it has a long queue and the staff will tell you what to do once it’s your turn.They will take a picture of you using their camera for £9.50 (if I remember correctly). But you can also take a picture of you using your cellphone or camera, however you will need to ask someone or your buddy to take the shot. And pose whatever you want. ?

Time for British Museum. Of course, most of the museum have security check. Not really a fan of museums though, but I liked the Louvre.

We needed to eat lunch, at the same time, we will go to Borough Market. We didn’t like the Fish ‘n Chips that much. And we were looking forward for this one. I guess we didn’t search where to look for the best fish ‘n chips in London. There’s a long line so we thought that it’s really good ?.

Time to walk again. To Buckingham Palace. The weather was very sunny so on the way to Buckingham Palace. You will see a lot of people sunbathing in the park. It’s like a 10-11 minute-walk going to the Palace. There’s a lot of people/tourist when we got there. That we had a hard time taking a picture of it. There’s also no schedule for changing of the guards that day. If you want to know the schedule you can go to this link.
We didn’t spent much time to the Palace. Because there are some people who are irritating, and the weather didn’t help. ?

Next, is the Piccadilly Circus. I just wanted to take a picture of the road with UK flags. So funny ?. And because London is also famous with their red or blue double-decker buses, I tried to include it with the photo ?

Leadenhall Market. I just like the interior of the Market, as I’ve read this was used as the Diagon Alley in Harry Potter.

It’s almost sunset. And we wanted to take a night shot of the tower bridge. And the Girl with a Dolphin Fountain.

And that’s it. That’s how we roam London City in 48 hours.
