Solo Backpacking in Europe: Florence – lovely city in Tuscany
The train(Trenitalia) to Florence from Rome is just 2 hours.
And here I am, Florence.
We arrived in Firenze S.M.N terminal on time.
Its cloudy, and it rained a while ago.
Following my GPS, I just need to walk to Plus Hostel..I think my offline GPS is trying to kill me…haha!
The walk took 15-20 minutes , I think … from this point, my back is shouting for help!!! ?
Eventually, thank God, I found my hostel, I’m on time for the Check in, so I arrange my stuff before going out.
Since I already established my trust with my offline gps…I went with it.
Now it’s telling me that all the attractions are walking distance.
OK, I said, it will save me money.
And well, it took me maybe 20-30 minutes to spot the Duomo ?
Then walk for about 10 minutes , and you will see the Ponte Vecchio…nice ?
The Uffizi Museum, is just around the corner.?
Going back to Duomo from Ponte Vecchio, I spot the Michael Angelo Museum.
Walking around in Florence is soooo nice and safe I should say ?
It’s a bit different from Rome as it is crowded.
So I enjoyed walking around Florence. ?
After all the walking, just bought my dinner and went back to Plus hostel.. to sleep
The next day, is Pisa and Cinque Terre (for one whole day).
I woke up late, like 8:00 am, and bought a buffet breakfast in the hostel, I plan to eat and rest while waiting for my scheduled train to Venice. But well, 2 hours for buffet is enough, and I think I need to walk, cause I’m really full.
So I went back to Ponte Vecchio, because I still don’t have a nice picture with the Ponte Vecchio, LOL.
After 1 hour, I went back to the hostel, to prepare my things as I need to walk again (sigh) to the Firenze S.M.N.
But all of a sudden it rains, so hard, not now! I need to walk..huhu
so I waited for 15 minutes , but it still raining, at least it’s just showers, so that’s OK..I can handle that ?
And so I wait in the terminal for my train to arrive.
After 1 hour, we board the train to Venice ?
This looks like a cool trip. I miss Italy.
Oh I have always wanted to visit Florence! It looks amazing and we hope to get over to Italy this summer!
This reminds me of my trip to Florence, you can very much walk to all the highlights in a show amount of time! Sorry about the rain though…
You got me nostalgic, we went to Florence last year only and the memories are incredible. Exploring florence on walk was the best thing a traveller can do. Michaelangelo square was one we loved the most, as we witnessed an amazing sunset there.
I love a walkable city! It just makes everything less stressful I think! The pictures you shared are beautiful.
Oh my goodness, I love Florence (and all of Italy!) so much! This takes me right back there! Florence had my favorite gelato of anywhere in Italy! Your pictures of the Duomo are great!

So many beautiful piccys and I love the fact that the Florence train journey from Rome is super short x
Italy is such a gorgeous country! I can’t wait till my husband and I can vacation there and see all these gorgeous sites
That’s too bad your hostel was so far from the sites! I stayed in one really close to everything, which was convenient. I found Florence to be quite crowded.
In all honesty, what I love about solo trips is that you get to plan an itinerary without worrying about other people. It’s definitely something that I’d recommend to other if they haven’t done it before. Love your trip to Florence! It’s such a beautiful place!
I have always wanted to go to Italy! It’s the #2 destination on my traveling abroad bucket list. All your pictures are absolutely gorgeous, it sounds like you got quite the workout on your site seeing adventure!?
